Rules
1.1.
The rain gutter regatta shall be conducted with boats racing in water
filled rain gutters.
1.2. Boats shall be propelled solely by sail power, provided exclusively
by the competitor blowing into the sail.
1.3. Each person shall be allowed to enter up to one boat per class.
1.4. The rain gutter regatta shall be governed by the Rules for Winter
2004 BYU Sailing Club rain gutter regatta
Standard
Class Boat Specifications
2.1 Cub scout sailing kit and rules apply.
Open
Class Boat Specifications
3.1. Length -- Total overall boat length (including all
appendages) shall not be less than 6”, and not greater than 7.5”.
3.2 Materials -- No materials or construction shall be used which represent
a hazard to competitors, officials, or spectators.
3.3 Boat must float
Artistic
Class Boat Specifications
4.1. Artistic class boats shall be constructed under open
class rules, but raced and judged as a separate class
4.2. Artistic class boats will be scored as a ratio of on-the-water performance
and judgment of artistic value 30:70
Racing
5.1. Each race will be conducted in a set of two 10’
rain gutters filled with water.
5.2. Each boat will race and be scored only against boats of the same
class.
5.3. Each race is only two boats racing against each other.
5.4. Boats shall begin each race with the rear most edge of the boat touching
the (start end) rain gutter end-cap.
5.5. A race begins when the race official verbally indicates.
5.6. Boats shall only be propelled by the competitor blowing into the
sail. (straws may be used)
5.7. During the period between when a race has begun and a boat finishes
that race, the boat may only be touched to right or straighten the boat.
A boat can only be touched after it has been stopped for 1 second, and
providing the touch does not propel the boat forward.
5.8. The first boat to bump the end-cap at the finish end of the rain
gutter wins that race.
